AGAPE Announces Greg Petree as Next Executive Director

by Tara Swafford, on behalf of the Board of Directors on March 09, 2026

The AGAPE Board of Directors is pleased to announce the hiring of Greg Petree as its next Executive Director. He will begin serving as Assistant Executive Director on March 16, 2026, and will assume the role of Executive Director on January 1, 2027, following the retirement of current Executive Director Chandler Means.

Greg brings more than 20 years of executive leadership experience across nonprofit and publishing organizations, with deep expertise in strategic planning, marketing, communications, and organizational growth. He has held senior leadership roles with organizations such as Howard Books/Simon & Schuster, LifeWay Christian Resources, and Thomas Nelson Publishers, where he built and led high-performing teams, advanced mission-driven initiatives, and managed multi-million-dollar budgets.

Throughout the hiring process, Board members were impressed by Greg’s preparation, integrity, and collaborative leadership style, as well as his passion for Christian service and ministry. “We believe he is the clear choice to lead AGAPE’s future,” said John Stallworth, Board Vice Chair and Succession Committee Chair.

Greg serves as an elder at Tusculum Church of Christ and is passionate about caring for the church family and participating in domestic and international mission efforts. Professional and personal references consistently describe him as a trusted, relational leader with strong faith, high integrity, and a proven ability to guide teams through change.

The Board of Directors is grateful for this planned leadership overlap. Chandler’s continued service through 2026 will provide mentorship and continuity during the transition. This intentional succession plan positions AGAPE well for the future while honoring the legacy of leadership that has led AGAPE to be one of the most trusted and respected organizations serving children and families in Middle Tennessee for the past 60 years. Following his retirement, Chandler will continue serving AGAPE in an advisory and donor engagement role, remaining supportive of the mission and Greg’s leadership.

AGAPE looks forward to welcoming Greg Petree and to the continued advancement of its mission to strengthen children and families with the healing love of Christ through counseling and social services.
